Clinical Border Health Opportunities

Flying Samaritans

Flying Samaritans Arizona is a volunteer, nonsectarian, health oriented organization serving and working with medical, optometry and dental personnel in remote areas of Baja California Mexico to help supplement medical care for the local populations

Under the auspices of the Tucson Chapter of Flying Samaritans, the undergraduate students of our UA Flying Samaritans organize, manage, and run a monthly medical clinic in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. At these clinics, students take patient histories and vitals, work in the pharmacy, teach health education lessons, and interpret for doctors. Agua Prieta is a border town, adjacent to the Arizona city of Douglas. There is a great need for even the most basic medical and dental services in the area as more than half of the residents do not have any form of state-sponsored healthcare and cannot afford it themselves. This community is ideal for our U of A Flying Samaritans clinic because it is only a couple hours away from Tucson by car.
